Can someone with the user right add the main page to Category:Wiki? Thanks. Samwalton9 (talk) 19:32, 9 December 2014 (UTC)

Can an admin please add Roadhog, and Junkrat to Heroes group on front page. Crazy296 (talk) 2:50, 23 September 2015 (UTC)

Can somebody with the permission add the new trailer to the main page videos? Thanks. Alecadabra (talk)

Done. Jbzdarkid (Talk | Contribs) 08:30, 19 December 2015 (UTC)

Appearances

Okay, is it just me, or have the images become even more whacked? Images placed at the top of the page seem to be pushed down, and when templates are used (e.g. the hero pages), they seem to be pushed to the left, leaving a large empty space in the upper right part of the screen. The former issue has been with this wiki as long as I can remember, but the images were never pushed as far down as this, while the template issue is new. Any idea what's happened/how to fix it?--Hawki (talk) 11:55, 7 March 2016 (UTC)

Applied a template to the KRC page to address the image issue. Not perfect, but when a template is used, the image isn't pushed down.--Hawki (talk) 07:47, 8 March 2016 (UTC)

Counter to each Hero

We got them for Reaper, but not for anyone else. We should get into those details.

  • I'll have to leave that to someone else. I'm not a player myself, so all information I can have is whatever I hear from others. --Krupam (talk)--

Videos

I think a policy needs to be established as to what videos/links can be posted on hero pages. I think it should only be limited to stuff from Blizzard or sites like Curse. Because even the best fan-made analysis of a hero is, at the end of the day, still fan-made.--Hawki (talk) 23:57, 19 May 2016 (UTC)

  • Aye, I wasn't sure what to do about those, and hey, I do respect Hammeh's stuff, but alright, for now I'll be just deleting those till there's a better way to deal with that. --Krupam (talk)--
If you both think, I'll back you up, lets just remove anything non blizzard, unless we have someone that's actually contributing to the wiki that's making the videos. --Z3ther (talk) 15:29, 20 May 2016 (UTC)

Other Misc

"Overwatch is currently available for pre-purchase here and will release May 24th. " is clearly out of date. 76.84.39.34 03:38, 5 June 2016 (UTC)

Thanks, updated! --Z3ther (talk) 06:33, 5 June 2016 (UTC)

Translation

Can admin add the chinese section at the sidebar? --Dotalim0204 (talk) 13:55, 5 June 2016 (UTC)

Audio lines

I want to add the unique audio lines of every hero, the announcer and the NPC's like the Dota gamepedia, so people can use it as a reference. (Most) Audio files can be found here and there. I could do this myself but this is my first time contributing to a wiki so I would like input before acting.

EDIT: Just saw that each Hero had a quotation page, time to get uploading. --Espequair (talk) 00:37, 6 June 2016 (UTC)

  • Well, thanks for the effort, but whatever could be added from those files had already been uploaded a while ago. It's the same several months old pack I already had.
  • Also, if anything, upload in .ogg, not in .wav. The latter doesn't play properly. --Krupam (talk)--
  • Will adding the name of the unlockable voice lines as shown in-game help? --PigeonGuru

Hero Links Broken

Someone has incorrectly linked to version pages for each hero on the main wiki page. For example: Genji links to http://overwatch.gamepedia.com/Genji?version=e4d8892ec45b6e6057846115cff3fc8d . This causes users who click on the hero to be sent to a page which will never load. He should instead link to http://overwatch.gamepedia.com/Genji . This needs to be fixed by an admin. --Shivo (talk)-- 3:10, 21 July 2016 (UTC)

Sprays and Achievements

Would it be a good idea to include sprays and achievements into the wiki? I feel like these should be here but are missing.

I've been very concerned about the lack of sprays as well. They would have to be datamined to get the cleanest image, but I haven't found many around. (I added a section header to your topic, hope you don't mind) -TheModster (talk) 10:54, 29 August 2016 (UTC)
I don't mind, but I would want to know more about the achievements. IS it because of the sprays that they are not added yet?-PigeonGuru
I just discovered yesterday that there are sprays (pre-Ana) that are uploaded to the wiki. They aren't very good quality though. I can only assume that the achievements haven't been added yet because no one has gotten around to it. - TheModster (talk) 13:11, 30 August 2016 (UTC)
The Achievements page has been made. We still need better images of all the sprays. - TheModster (talk) 03:22, 1 September 2016 (UTC)
I think one better way to do it is to make a template and put them in each hero's page. However I don't really know how to make templates. Meanwhile I might copy info over from the Achievements page to each of the Heroes' pages.
Edit: Guess we need the icons for the achievements as well, don't think that needs datamining.PigeonGuru

Capitalization guide

This wiki lacks a style guide for many aspects, so naturally I've just been assuming it uses the standard wiki style. However I have been noticing a distinct disparity in several regards, but the most striking seems to be capitalization. Wiki style for capitalization of headers as well as names of articles is typically the first word gets capitalized and the rest do not unless they are proper nouns. However, this does not appear to be the case throughout most of this wiki. This is fine, as long as its intended, but I think that if its intended we all need to be on the same page. So I think we need to figure out if this is intended and to get on the same page a good way to do that would be to create a simple capitalization guide or style guide (with notes on capitalization) in order to be clear for everyone who contributes. -LastTalon (talk) • (contribs) 22:27, 16 September 2016 (UTC)

Quote Ordering, Organization & Datamining

In the Quotes page of each hero, how should the quotes be ordered/ organized. A full order list would be appreciated. Also is someone here capable of datamining quotes? If yes then can you please add in the missing audio of quotes as well as add new quotes? PigeonGuru (talk) 11:55, 24 September 2016 (UTC)

There is a new format for the quotes pages being tested on my user page that you can check out. As for the audio files, Gabrielwoj and I have extracted them and we are gradually adding them to the wiki. I've been busy with real life stuff, so I haven't made as much progress in that regard. - TheModster (talk) 19:06, 24 September 2016 (UTC)
However, I don't know which ones are used or not, each hero has many voice lines and I don't think all of them are used, and some of the pages are missing few things like pressing Z to tell about your Ult Charge when targeting someone (which emits a different voice). I'll try add some of the missing Quotes ones for Ana, which seems to be the most complete right now, but I'm most adding the voices randomly, but I'll try to add the most I can. Bastion quotes page is going to be a pure hassle, though. Gabrielwoj (talk) 21:50, 24 September 2016 (UTC)
I have the same problem. It's difficult because they don't really remove the unused quotes from the game files, so they're all mixed in with the current quotes. I have to rely on gameplay videos and second-hand information from people who have heard them in-game. - TheModster (talk) 22:09, 24 September 2016 (UTC)
Usually games have some sort of manifest to show which resource files are being actively used and how they're used. Perhaps one exists in the game files somewhere? -LastTalon (talk) • (contribs) 22:17, 24 September 2016 (UTC)
Maybe. Overwatch's game files are completely "encrypted" and it's somewhat difficult to rip the files. I use a tool called OverTool (along few other tools to extract the .wem file, sound file for OW), with that tool, the sound files are "categorized" per character, but not per action, and every file are composed by numbers or letters, making it difficult to know what is what, requiring to hear each one separately before uploading. Also, I don't know if anyone could do this, but having the "File:something.ogg" would help a lot the work, instead of just "Audio", so we don't need to still edit the Quote pages to add those audio files to the table, we can also just upload directly and the audio will be there as soon the page is cached. My only concern is that audio files with lengthy file names was giving out some errors and I could not upload them, like this one, which I had to add suspension points: File:D.Va - A giant gorilla Just like in those old....ogg. I may get more into the work after this weekend, but we'll see. Gabrielwoj (talk) 23:06, 24 September 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for the reply. I'll test your suggestion and see how it goes. PigeonGuru (talk) 02:41, 25 September 2016 (UTC)
I attempted to format the Genji Quotes page but I encountered problems:
*I don't know how to split a table (in fact is this even possible?) so I have to copy & paste the contents separately, which is troublesome.
*By doing so the resultant tables are not of the same width.
Anyone know a better way to doing this? PigeonGuru (talk) 03:01, 25 September 2016 (UTC)
Are you using the visual editor or the source editor? I don't think you can split tables or make them the same widths in the visual editor, but it's possible with source. - TheModster (talk) 04:34, 25 September 2016 (UTC)
Visual editor, I find it easier as I'm not that skilled with source codes. PigeonGuru (talk) 05:57, 25 September 2016 (UTC)
Editing tables to that degree pretty much requires the source editor, unfortunately. If you want, I can make a new test page with Genji's quotes. - TheModster (talk) 06:11, 25 September 2016 (UTC)
That can help quite some. I would like to know how to use the source editor more. PigeonGuru (talk) 06:46, 25 September 2016 (UTC)
Okay, so I made a new page at User:TheModster/Quote test with Genji's quotes. You can open this new page and Genji's original page in source and see how the code compares (especially in the header of the tables, notice the width settings in mine). Mess with it and see what happens. Learning how to identify differences in the code, and how the page's appearance is affected by them, is a great skill to develop when it comes to editing source. Another tip: Start saving pages and bits of code in text files on your computer. I make a lot of my big edits in notepad++, and copy and paste it into the editor to preview it. That way, if the power goes out you won't lose work (as long as you save it regularly, that is). And it's good to keep sample code to refer to and experiment with. - TheModster (talk) 18:05, 25 September 2016 (UTC)
Tested the editing method for the McCree page on my userpage, works out well enough. PigeonGuru (talk) 10:24, 29 September 2016 (UTC)

Sombra on Main Page

Can someone find out how to add Sombra to the main page? Shinobi19 (talk) 20:49, 5 November 2016 (UTC)

I can see that Sombra is not on the main page for mobile and tablet versions, but is on for other versions. I'll check on that. PigeonGuru (talk) 09:38, 20 November 2016 (UTC)
Sombra is on the mobile main page now. - TheModster (talk) 16:45, 22 November 2016 (UTC)

Winder Wonderland cosmetics

Can someone add the cosmetic items added in the Winter Wonderland event into the wiki?

  • Skins, poses, intros, emotes and sprays are all already uploaded. I just figured there's little need to make a separate category for'em. --Krupam (talk)--

Sorry, didn't quite notice right there. However we still need icons for the Symmetra rework abilities. PigeonGuru (talk) 03:14, 19 December 2016 (UTC)

I'll have the icons up shortly. - TheModster (talk) 03:31, 19 December 2016 (UTC)

Redundant Sources

I have been adding origins/debut information to character pages that do not yet that information. However, some of my efforts were removed because there were source links that supposedly informs their origins anyway. However, as a reader, I do not often click on source links to see where characters come from, and find it much easier to just read "they were featured in [[fill in the blank]]", and most pages regarding the main characters do say that, too. So why are my efforts considered "redundant"? Or am I really just being redundant? (example: Emily's page, check revision history.) - Gills97 (talk) 16:20, 13 January 2017 (UTC)

It's partly because articles go for in-universe writing as well. For instance, Emily's page needs expansion to cover the events of the comic. Saying "she debuted in Reflections" doesn't add much because a look at the source tells anyone as much, and breaks the in-universe style.--Hawki (talk) 22:44, 13 January 2017 (UTC)
Okay, I can see that in a way. I just don't see the entire need to erase my entry. But... would saying something more along the lines as describing her character (which currently is near impossible) or how or why she appeared in the universe, in an in-universe style (akin to Timmy's page versus Brian's bare page) be better? -- Gills97 (talk) 23:07, 13 January 2017 (UTC)
Of the two, Timmy's is the better article. It's why I let "Brian appears in the trailer" stay because in lieu of greater detail, the line has some relevance. A full Brian article would have the same detail as the Timmy article, and sourcing the info could cover his appearance in the trailer regardless (or potentially in "trivia," depending on how relevant it is).--Hawki (talk) 23:32, 13 January 2017 (UTC)
Though, Emily's article is nearly just as bare as Brian's, and the relevance to Brian's appearance text is seldom different from Emily's, unless I am missing something to what you are saying. I'm not meaning to argue, I'm just wanting to clear up why it is less relevant so I understand, and so I do not repeat myself in vein. --Gills97 (talk) 23:47, 13 January 2017 (UTC)
Emily has the link to the comic giving the point of debut, Brian doesn't. I mean, okay, if you want, you can say she appears in the comic, but it's only a short-term solution to the lack of content on the page.--Hawki (talk) 23:54, 13 January 2017 (UTC)
Ohh I didn't realize Brian had no source link. Well, I can add information about both characters to flesh them out, I've been wanting to make a more fleshed out article. Though, would it be considered a spoiler to add info about her opening the gift, visiting/knowing Winston, etc.? Because I was thinking to add that but wasn't sure if those ruin the basis of the comic, or if, being a wiki, reader's expect detail regardless of minor spoilers (regarding that readers choose to view a page about a specific character), because most articles tell almost everything regarding the character and the events around them (like Timmy's article, which summarizes the trailer almost entirely) --Gills97 (talk) 00:10, 14 January 2017 (UTC)
If someone's reading a story/lore/character-based article, you're going to get spoilers by definition, so tags are redundant. Her knowing Winston is hardly a spoiler in itself anyway, since it's not presented as a mystery or an important plot point.--Hawki (talk) 01:56, 14 January 2017 (UTC)
Well, although minor, it would take the element of Winston's loneliness to then having them show up kinda predicted, even though it sorta is predictable anyway, but then again, people shouldn't read about characters they don't know unless they wish to learn about them in the first place, regardless of spoilers. Either way, thank you for clearing this up with me. I shall take it into consideration before I edit anything in the future. --Gills97 (talk) 02:19, 14 January 2017 (UTC)

Winston's Speech (trailer)

Do we have a page for that? I was just about to make an entry about what was on the paper written "My Big Speech", but I can't find an article for the trailer itself. His character page has a synopsis of it under Trivia, but I wanted to archive what it says word for word. --Gills97 (talk) 22:36, 28 January 2017 (UTC)

Hero Match-Up areas to be removed

It has come to attention that the hero match-ups are too extensive, messy, inconsistent and always out of date. I suggest that the hero match ups in hero pages be removed. Whenever an update goes live, even if only one hero is changed, all 24 hero pages have to be altered to reflect their interaction with said hero, and this doesn't ever seem to be followed through. And even still, it's never cut-and-dry, as every engagement is case-by-case. This is a wiki, not a game guide. Opinions appreciated! -Gills97 (talk) 21:50, 8 March 2017 (UTC)

Update: I have officially removed the sections (I discussed the matter with several Wiki Guardians before doing so). Any information shall be posted to the general strategies sections now. Many of the heroes, like Hanzo, Reaper and Roadhog, had general info repeated throughout each match-up (Reaper ex: Must be close range, doesn't deal well with snipers, etc. etc.), so such info should be general and thus placed under general strategies, and Lúcio had barely any info at all.

If anyone has any objections, please state here before possibly causing a revert/undo war. -Gills97 (talk) 15:48, 10 March 2017 (UTC)
