Artificial intelligence became interwoven with human society over the 21st century.[2] Prior to the Omnic Crisis, humanity had developed AI that was on par with human intellect itself. Small, less complex AIs orchestrated traffic flows, ensured food stores were stocked, and managed public works. As AI continued to proliferate, the specter of unemployment loomed in the sectors it affected.[1]
God programs, the next generation of AI, were interwoven with human infrastructure. Food-distribution systems were so efficient that famine and poverty was eradicated.[2] Under the guidance of Dr. Mina Liao, the Omnica Corporation's research division produced some of the most advanced AI the world had ever seen, meeting and exceeding each new supposed limit.[1]
A key development in the history of AI was Aurora; the first sentient omnic. While she was granted legal personhood, the United Nations placed limits on further AI development.[3]
