Ultimate abilities are powerful abilities that must be charged before using. Progress is shown on the Ultimate Meter.
Ultimate charge
Ultimates are charged in the following ways:
- Heroes gain 5 charge every second.
- Heroes gain charge equal to the amount of damage they do to enemy players.
- Exception(s): Damaging Wrecking Ball with Adaptive Shield does not give ultimate charge.
- Although most heroes cannot gain charge while their Ultimate is active, Ashe, Hanzo, Torbjörn, Tracer, and Wrecking Ball can. Damage from their Ultimates do not give any charge.
- Heroes gain charge equal to the amount of healing they do to themselves or their teammates.
- Mercy gains charge equal to 130% of the damage she amplified, or 30% of the damage done by her target.
- Only counts damage done to enemy players, and not to objects or self.

- Ultimate costs are in multiples of 62.5, with the exception of Call Mech.
- Ultimate costs were originally in multiples of 50, but on November, 2016, all ultimate costs in the game got increased by 25%.
